Connecting Nordic–Baltic mobility expertise with Europe’s future‑ready cities

When Europe’s intelligent mobility community gathered at the crossroads of two continents, Nordic+ was present with a clear purpose: to connect Nordic–Baltic innovation, cooperation and real‑world deployment experience with international decision‑makers shaping the future of transport.
The ITS European Congress 2026, held in Istanbul on 27–29 April, offered not only a strong strategic backdrop but also high‑quality discussions and compelling presentations across policy, technology and implementation. The Congress programme reflected a growing maturity in the ITS field—shifting the focus from pilots towards integration, governance and scale.
Strong discussions at the heart of the Congress
A major highlight of the week was the co‑created session on “National and Cross‑border Projects”, organised in collaboration with the ITS Nationals Network. The session was moderated by Joost Vantomme (LL.M), CEO of ERTICO, and featured insights from Hanne Breivik (ITS Norway) and Sanni Remonen (ITS Finland).

The discussion clearly demonstrated how harmonised cooperation between countries is essential for enabling the seamless movement of freight and people across European borders. By grounding the conversation in real national and cross‑border projects, the session underlined the need for alignment not only at policy level, but also in implementation, data sharing and operational practices.
Nordic+ expertise visible across technical sessions
In addition to high‑level dialogue, Nordic+ experts were actively engaged throughout the Technical Sessions, remaining at the forefront of discussions covering the full spectrum of future mobility. From connected infrastructure and data‑driven services to automation, sustainability and multimodal integration, Nordic and Baltic perspectives contributed strongly to shaping the debate.
Across sessions, a recurring signal emerged: Europe’s mobility ecosystem is ready to move faster—but success depends on trusted cooperation, interoperability and system‑level thinking, areas where Nordic+ collaboration offers proven experience.
From Istanbul forward
Participation in the ITS European Congress 2026 once again confirmed the value of a shared Nordic+ presence: stronger visibility, deeper dialogue and a unified voice in international mobility forums. The discussions, sessions and encounters in Istanbul will continue to inform Nordic+ cooperation and international engagement as the network builds the next steps toward scalable, sustainable and connected mobility.
