A Latvian delegation visited Austria from 7–10 September to observe operational transport technologies and identify opportunities for cooperation. The visit was co-organised by ITS Latvia and the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA).
Visits to ASFINAG’s traffic control centre and ALP.The lab’s automated mobility testing environment offered a practical look at traffic management, monitoring, and automated vehicle operations. Discussions covered LiDAR, radar and camera-based systems, digital twins, 3D environmental models, and the use of AI and data in urban development.
The exchange also highlighted Latvian expertise. In Graz, ITS Latvia presented Latvia’s experience in digital public services and digitally empowered industries. LMT Innovations shared its experience of integrating a smart traffic management solution in Graz, providing a concrete example of Latvian technology being deployed in Austria.
Meetings with IKT Linz and the City of Linz focused on smart mobility, traffic management, and data-driven urban development. Participants explored how Latvian solutions could help address local challenges.
In Vienna, AustriaTech and Wiener Linien demonstrated C-ITS communication between trams, traffic signals and road infrastructure. The demonstration showed how real-time information exchange can support traffic-light priority, safety warnings, and more efficient urban transport.
Throughout the visit, participants identified shared challenges and opportunities to combine expertise from cities, infrastructure operators, researchers, and technology companies. ITS Latvia will now work to turn these contacts into cooperation through pilot projects, technology deployment and joint European initiatives.
ITS Latvia thanks LIAA and the Austrian partners for making the exchange possible.
