American Bryant Walker Smith was recently in Oslo to give a lecture at ITS Norway‘s ITS Day 2025. He also guested on Teknisk Ukeblad‘s podcast “Teknisk sett”, where he talks about both the technology and regulation surrounding self-driving cars.

Bryant is an engineer by training, but later studied law and became a lawyer to influence the development of self-driving cars. He has extensive experience in transportation and self-driving cars – and believes that good technological solutions are not enough, it is absolutely crucial that the regulators are also involved in the development.

“The players must make a promise to users and society at large. The companies that offer self-driving cars must show that they keep their promises,” says Bryant Walker Smith.

Listen to the podcast episode here – Technically speaking: If you’re going to be hit by a car, it’s probably best if it’s self-driving!

PS:It is titled “Skal du bli påkjørt av en bil, er det trolig best om den er selvkjørende”, but the episode is in English.
